Commission calculator for mamak and kopitiam restaurants
Mamak restaurants sell a lot of small orders, around the clock. On a RM22 order, a 30 percent commission is RM6.60, about the same as a rider. That makes the maths different from a restaurant with big baskets.
The example uses high volume and a low average order. Change it to your own numbers to see where your break-even sits.

Moving 800 orders a month to your own channel could save about RM1,167 a month, RM14,004 a year, after payment fees, EatsVenture commission, delivery and the cost of the system.

Worked example for a mamak
With 4,000 app orders a month at an average of RM22.00 and 30% commission, the apps take RM26,400 a month. Moving 20% of those orders (800 a month) to your own channel stops RM5,280 of commission. After RM352 of payment fees, RM1,056 of EatsVenture commission, RM1,280 of rider cost not covered by delivery fees and RM1,425 for the ordering system and marketing, the saving is about RM1,167 a month, or RM14,004 a year. Break-even is moving about 11% of app orders.
What changes the result for a mamak
Rider cost decides it
With a small average order, the gap between commission and rider cost is thin. Charging a fair delivery fee, or nudging customers to pick up, changes the result more than anything else.
Volume works for you
Even a small saving per order adds up across thousands of orders. The fixed monthly cost of your own system is spread over a lot of orders.
Late night is yours
Regulars who order supper from the same mamak every week are the easiest to move to your own channel.

Questions restaurant owners ask
Is own delivery worth it for low-value mamak orders?
Only if the delivery fee you charge covers most of the rider cost, or the order is picked up. Use the calculator's delivery share and fee fields to test both.
How do I get customers to order direct instead of through an app?
Put a QR code to your own ordering page on every table, bag and receipt, and give a small reason to use it, such as a loyalty point or a free teh tarik on the fifth order.
How much commission do GrabFood and foodpanda charge restaurants in Malaysia?
It depends on your merchant agreement, the services you use (delivery by the platform or by you, pickup) and any promotions you join. Use the rate on your own monthly statement, including any tax charged on the commission.
Why does the calculator assume only part of my orders will move?
Because it is true. The apps bring customers who would not find you otherwise. Your own channel wins the customers who already know you. Assuming every order moves makes the saving look several times bigger than it will be.
Why are food cost and packaging not in the calculation?
They are the same whichever channel the order comes through, so they do not change the saving. Only the costs that differ between the apps and your own channel are compared.
Is this calculator free?
Yes, with no sign-up. The numbers you type stay in your browser.
